Our New Changing Rooms
The latest step in our transformation
The last time anyone touched the changing rooms at Mount Wise, Margaret Thatcher had just become Prime Minister and the club was playing in the South Western League.
That was 1980. The same year our members built the clubhouse with their own hands.
Forty-five years on, the changing rooms have had their own transformation. On December 20th, Newquay Mayor Drew Creek officially opened facilities transformed by a £70,000 investment. The refurbishment brings Mount Wise in line with modern standards for inclusion and accessibility. Proper provision for our men's and women's teams using the same facilities. Disability access throughout. Electrical and plumbing systems completely renewed. LED lighting. And because this is Newquay AFC in 2026, the whole thing runs on the renewable energy we've already integrated into the stadium.
Twenty-three local businesses, organisations, and individuals came together to make it happen.
Cribbar Construction led the project. Committee member James Lenton provided the architectural drawings pro bono, working out how to maximise the space we had. Funding came from the Premier League Stadium Fund, the Suez Communities Trust, and the club's own coffers.
But look at who else stepped up: City Plumbing. Cornwall Council. The Cornwall Football Association. Crown Paints. EMS Waste Services. Eurocell. GPH Carpentry. Harvest Cornwall. Higman Windows. Jewson. MEP South West Ltd. Oltco. PJ Print. Pipe Masters. Plumbase. Shore Electrical. South West Carpet. WAX Events. Woodcut Ltd. Individual supporters too: Gary and Pauline Jones, Jean, Mandy and Steve Rich.
Every supplier local. Every material sourced from round here where possible.
Our players now walk out of changing rooms that match our ambitions. Visiting teams see a club that holds itself to a higher standard. And everyone who uses Mount Wise benefits from facilities fit for the future.
This is one step in something bigger. The promotion. The new website. The stadium improvements. Each one proof that this club is building for where we're going, not just where we've been.
Forty-five years since the last refurbishment. When it came time to do it right, twenty-three local businesses and supporters stepped up. This is what community looks like.
This is how we rise.
